Description
Conceived by Júlio Resende and designed by José Carlos Loureiro, the Lugar do Desenho was opened in 1997 and is a unique cultural institution on both the national and international scenes. Located next to the Casa Atelier, it establishes a physical and conceptual continuity with it, housing the artist’s vast collection of drawings, comprising over 2,500 works, as well as a collection of around 500 works by other national and international artists. In addition to preserving and promoting this heritage, the Foundation runs a busy programme of cultural and educational activities, including exhibitions, conferences, concerts, workshops, artist residencies and research projects. It has now established itself as a leading centre dedicated to the study, promotion and appreciation of drawing from a contemporary, national and international perspective.
